Facts about the Quality of Air in your home.

Indoor air is enclosed, which means proper ventilation is essential to keep it circulating. However, pollutants persist because most ventilation systems and filters aren’t effective enough—and if the garden where air exchange occurs is also contaminated, the problem worsens. When we can smell or taste the pollution, it can negatively impact our health. This is especially concerning given what we experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A few companies in the market are attempting to tackle this issue, but they mainly focus on testing or monitoring air quality rather than actually purifying it. HVAC providers typically maintain or install central air systems, but they don’t address deep air-cleaning processes. That was my observation back in 2010, and unfortunately, it still holds true today.

Signs of indoor air quality problems

• Unusual and noticeable odors.
• Stale or stuffy air.
• Noticeable lack of air movement.
• Dirty or faulty central heating or air conditioning equipment.
• Presence of molds and mildew.
• Feeling noticeably healthier outside.

Common Sources of Air Quality Problems

• Moisture and biological pollutants- traces from Covid-19.
• Combustion products.
• Formaldehyde (HCHO) from durable press draperies and other textiles.
• Radon- a radioactive gas from soil and rock beneath and around the home’s foundation, groundwater wells and some building materials.
• Asbestos found in most homes more than 20 years old.

Monitoring devices

To begin, we collect test samples and send them to a laboratory to assess the current air quality in your home. Once the initial analysis is complete, we use electronic monitoring devices to track key environmental parameters. While sensor technology and diagnostic procedures are advancing, current market options still have limitations for certain metrics. That’s why it’s important to be mindful of which parameters you want to monitor and how much you’re willing to invest.
